There Be dragons!

There be dragons!

Due to restrictions in the permit, we were not allowed to use sound for this object mapping, so we had to be creative. We chose to tell the story of the Siege of Zierikzee (1575-1576) by “Mondragón the Spanish Dragon” using contours, blueprints, and historically accurate images.

The film begins with the dragon emerging from a galleon like the one used by Mondragón during the Eighty Years' War, with a port city based on an old etching of Zierikzee in the background. This is followed by a symbolic occupation of the city by Mondragón, the dragon.

This theme continues throughout the rest of the film: vistas in the style of the Dutch Masters, blueprints by Mondragón and his opponent Nicolaas Ruychaver, and the foot soldiers. A special role is reserved for Mondragón's sword, which, according to legend, is still kept in Zierikzee.

The story ends, of course, like every good story: the dragon is defeated, the inhabitants are freed,

And they lived happily ever after.
